Structures/When Industry Moves Elsewhere
While attending a lecture some years ago a statement caught my ear, that children are born with a structure sense. In the case of the lecturer this applied to language, specifically musical language, but I immediately had a moment of self recognition. I have always been drawn to structure, whether physical or linguistic. Riffing on this thought led to several series of work, these, and the very focused Taste of Metal series done in Norway. (to be posted later) Thoughts of memory of structure and a structure’s memory, construction and deconstruction, what lasts and what does not, what is bridged and what is abridged, what is lost when industry moves elsewhere built into woodcuts, etchings, collagraphs and combinations of these as I have pondered how humans have attempted to shape space.
